The current hair transplant techniques began to develop after the 1990’s. At that time the used technique was Fut (strip), while Fue technique was developed in 2000, with a real use only starting from the year 2005. Being more advanced than Fut technique, Fue has also become the most used, thanks to the improvements made by the technique. FUE transplantation technique allows patients suffering from baldness or hair thinning to achieve a natural appearance, with rapid recovery and very small scars. The improvement of the materials used in the FUE increases the success of the technique day by day.
With the FUE method (Follicular Unit Extraction), the hair follicles are taken one by one with a special micro-motor and the aid of local anesthesia; grafts are repositioned afterwards in the bald areas, according to the angle and the natural direction of hair growth. Generally the donor area (the area from which the follicles are taken) is the back of the head. Since the nape follicles are genetically stronger and more resistant to shedding, this region is preferred as a donor area. However, if the area is not dense enough, grafts are collected from other parts of the body. The bulbs taken are planted in thinning or completely bald areas. In order for the hair transplant to be performed with the FUE technique, the patients’ hair must be shorter than 1 mm, therefore the head is shaved. Before the shave is performed, photographs of the patient are taken from each angle, to determine the areas where the follicles will be taken and transplanted. The determination of the donor area is thus completed. In order that the patient does not experience any painful sensations, local anesthesia is applied to the donor area, from which the grafts will be collected.
There is no intervention on the tissue from which the follicles will be taken; grafts are taken individually.Since the tissue is not removed, no stitches are required. The FUE technique can also be used in beard, eyebrow and mustache transplantation.
Shaving the hair could create an aesthetic problem for the patient. After harvesting the follicles, the preparation phase up to the transplant process takes some time. This process can be lengthy for the patient and even exceed the expected time frame.
One day of absolute rest is recommended after FUE hair transplant. After 2 days you can return to daily and working life. The transplanted hair begins to grow gradually starting from the 3rd month after the transplant and the definitive result will be visible around the 12th month. It is good to stay away from very hot environments such as saunas and solarium for 2-3 weeks after the hair transplant, avoid direct sun exposure, strain and watery environments such as the sea and the swimming pool, during the first month.
There are no fixed costs in FUE hair transplant surgeries. The price of the procedure varies according to the individual cases. The quantity of follicles to be extracted and transplanted and the specificity of the procedure to be applied, play a decisive role in determining the price.
